Nurses

The Practice Nurse team, Catriona and Vanessa are an integral part of the practice team and are highly qualified and experienced in all aspects of health screening and nursing care. They take blood, give infant and adult immunisations and holiday vaccinations.

They also perform cervical screening (smears), do dressings and ear irrigation, undertake monitoring of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, blood pressure, diet, ECGs and cholesterol checks. They also offer well person checks and provide lifestyle advice including smoking cessation.

Phlebotomists

We have two phlebotomists, Eileen and Louise who take blood and carry out blood pressure checks.

Practice Management

Mrs Ingrid Marsh
Practice Manager (BA PGCE)
Ingrid is responsible for the administration of the practice. If you wish to make any enquiries or comments about the surgery or our services she will be pleased to help you. You should also see her if you have a complaint about the surgery. Ingrid is always happy to hear any suggestions or ideas you may have about any aspects of our service. Please do not hesitate to contact her by telephone or in writing. She is usually here Monday to Thursday.

Reception

Lyn is our office manager and has a team of receptionists and Admin staff, Sue, Louise, Heather, Suzanne and Jo to keep the surgery running smoothly. If Ingrid is unavailable you should contact her instead. She deputises for our Practice Manager when necessary. When telephoning for medical attention the receptionist may ask for a few details. To assess the degree of urgency all reception staff have been fully trained to make these enquiries in order to help you in the most appropriate way. Please be assured that the rules of confidentiality apply to all practice staff.

Community Midwives

The Community Midwife is attached to the practice and she is responsible for antenatal and early postnatal care. Clinics are held on Tuesday afternoon

Community Nurses

They provide nursing care to patients in their own homes (to housebound patients). They provide practical advice and assistance to patients, relatives and carers dealing with illness at home. The District Nursing Team can be contacted at the surgery on 01803 559421

Health Visitors

The Health Visiting Service is available to all patients registered at Bishops Place regardless of age. Support and advice is offered on a range of health and behavioural issues, and this can involve being seen at home or in the surgery. Baby Clinics, adults and young peoples well being and smoking cessation clinics are held once a week. Health Visitors are fully qualified nurses with further training on Community/Public Health with the aim of promoting all aspects of health and well being

Attached Staff

Our Carer Support Worker, Trish Darke, can be contacted at the surgery every Friday. Her role is to provide advice for people who are caring for a long term sick person. She can be contacted on 01803 559421

Youthhealthtalk enables young people, their family and friends, and professionals such as doctors and teachers to understand young people's experiences of health, illness and life in general. The website feature real-life accounts of issues such as effect on work and education, social life and relationships, consulting health professionals and treatment.
